You can use anything as a journal. It doesn't matter what size but I would say for it to not be too small. Mine is a medium sized journal. Depending on what you are going to put in it, you could get a bigger one.
I'm not ashamed, mine came from Dollar General. It was a quick grab and I needed one ASAP.

It's not too small and not too big. It would fit in a purse and not take up too much room. It's cute and it was cheap! SMASH* also makes journals. They are $12. They come with pre-decorated pages, a pocket in the back (I think, haha) and a glue pen. There are a bunch of different ones. I love it!
